Constructed in 1980, Arthur Erickson's great civic complex had already achieved heritage status when UBC chose to restore the former conference centre and adapt the space to become their downtown campus.
In addition to providing a comprehensive range of interior architecture services from the start of the project, ravendesign.ca was also retained to develop the exterior identity, interior signage and wayfinding systems. Our primary objective was to complement the existing architecture.

The facility's below-grade location offered a challenge for wayfinding; the design team explored numerous options to bring UBC's identity to street level, always sensitive to the stature of the iconic building.
